What is WinMX anyway?

Since I posted about WinMX a while back, I ought to explain what it is. It is a large peer-to-peer file-sharing program. In September of 2005 it was served with a cease & desist order, backed by the RIAA. Fuckers. Anyway, the WinMX community fought back and managed to restore the system to a functioning (and large-based) status within a short amount of time. Instead of looking to WinMX’s website for a server to hook into, it now looks at an altered Windows hosts file to see where it should connect.

Anyway, should you wish to get the P.I.E. patch, which restores WinMX functionality, along with the original program itself, go over to MXPie.com. It’s all available there.
