Okay, I’m betting a bunch of you out there want to memorize that kickass monologue from the last Doctor Who (Rings of Akhaten), don’t you? Okay, here it is. Enjoy. The video is at the bottom.
Okay then. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgment. All these people whose ancestors devoted themselves — sacrificed themselves — *to you*. Can you hear them singing? Oh, you like to think you’re a *God*. Well, you’re not a God — you’re just a parasite, eaten out with jealous, envy, and longing for the lives of others. You *feed* on them. On the memory of love, and loss, and birth, and death, and joy, and sorrow…so…SO…come on then, take mine. Take. My. Memories. But I hope you’ve got a big appetite. Because I have lived a LONG life, and I have seen a *few* things. I walked away from the last Great Time War. I marked the passing of the Time Lords. I saw the *birth* of the universe and I watched as time RAN OUT, moment by moment, until NOTHING remained — NO TIME, NO SPACE, *JUST ME*! I walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a *mad* man. And I’ve watched universes freeze, and creation *burn* — I have seen things you WOULDN’T *BELIEVE* AND I HAVE *LOST* THINGS YOU WILL *NEVER* UNDERSTAND — and I know things. Secrets that must never be told. *Knowledge* that must NEVER be *SPOKEN*! KNOWLEDGE THAT WILL MAKE. PARASITE.GODS. *BLAZE*! SO *COME* ON, THEN!!! TAKE IT!!!! TAKE IT ALL, BABY!!!!! HAVE IT! YOU. HAVE. IT. ALL!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I’m planning to audition with this monologue, I’m so excited!
Ha! Good luck. It’s a good one! First one I put up got ripped down by BBC — hopefully this one stays. Too bad the season’s over, eh? Nov. 23rd for the 50th. Best of luck on your audition!
As a casting director, I can honestly say that if someone ever did a Doctor Who monologue, I would give them the role in a heartbeat!
Just…give me a couple of months to memorize one fully? 🙂
oh really??? 🙂
A female Australian Doctor. I’d pay to see that.
How about a female American one? 🙂
Woe to the writer who makes a female Doctor. Woe, I tell you. Woe unto him or her. It will not hold up. Besides, there already was a female doctor — it’s the blonde chick from Absolutely Fabulous, she played a female Doctor for about five minutes in “Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death” during Comic Relief. 🙂
Oh boy, the female doctor is a victim of REALLY BAD writing.
Is this meant sarcastically? Because she has been and is a victim of exactly that. Can’t remember who wrote Akhaten but it’s a good one. Chibnall, current showrunner, wrote very forgettable episodes when he used to be a DW writer. Oh, and this is not terrible writing, I mean…the thing is, I was not in favor of a female doctor at ALL when Whittaker took over, but I gave her a chance, and watching her, I keep thinking, “You’re actually growing on me, it’s not your fault…you are trying your damnedest to do the best you can with a terrible script…” Thing is, she’s just never been handed a scene as great as this one is, period. Though — the series under Chibnall does get a *little* better. We’ll see. I don’t hold out much hope for the next Doctor, either, if Chibnall remains, whether it’s a man, woman, transsexual, confused mentally impaired androgynous male-identifying female-pronoun-identifying robot — whatever they’ve decided The Doctor should be now (of course The Doctor can be a woman, but just because you *can* do something doesn’t mean you should do it).
I went to the Star Wars Casting audition with the shortened version of the Doctor Who speech–the one done in Proms 2013– alas though, it was a handing photos and resume–10 seconds of talking to casting director and/or crew and I was gone…..sigh, I had it all prepared….
where do you do casting?
I can do it and look great too, got a bow tie and everything…
Please offer me an audition and i will show up as 11 and deliver this monolouge with everything i have in me. Thank you
how’d you do??
I’m going 2 audition w/ this too!!☺☺
how’d the audition go?
Thanks for this, I am hearing impaired and while I can hear him, sometimes if there is background noise I have no clue to his epic speeches. Thanks for taking the time to write it up!
No problem! I really should include the full ending with The Impossible Girl and whatnot, but I felt that the scene ends more dramatically here; plus, that’s Clara’s speech and not The Doctor’s. Getting excited about the 12th Doctor? It won’t be Hurt, by the way, they can’t afford him (unless they did, say, a 2-episode season).
I’m excited to see who the new doctor will be, however there is always that risk that the speculation is wildly off the mark and we get a complete unknown. I’m also nervous about Moffatt: he has consistently surprised us, so I wouldn’t put it past him that he’ll trick us all with the new doctor.
They couldnt afford capaldi either but they picked him in the end, thanks to capaldi taking less than he’s technically worth.
This is quite possibly the absolute very best scene in the whole series. I never really liked Matt Smith as the doctor (Tennant fan myself), but after this scene he really grew on me.
The eternal cry of the Whovian: “I didn’t like [insert new Doctor’s name here], but he’s really been growing on me since [pick an episode].” 🙂
I didn’t like William Hartnell, but he’s really been growing on me since An Unearthly Child
BBC America is running this season leading up to the Christmas Special later this afternoon.
I had to get up from the computer and go sit down in front of the TV to watch this…again…and DAMN does Matt Smith bring it!
It’s a beautiful monologue delivered beautifully.
omg thanks i learnt this in a week and auditioned for my school talent show im waiting and if i get though i owe it to you
Well, good luck. 🙂 Happy to help.
i will miss matt smith
My little brother did this monologue for an audition for his middle school’s production of High School Musical 2. he ended up getting the role of Chad. Lolz, little white soccer player playing a black basketball player.. oh the irony…
My whole family and i love Doctor Who. We did Doctor Who for Halloween this year. I went as a Tardis, my brothers went as a cyberman, a dalek, and the 11th doctor, my step-dad went as the 10th doctor, and my mom went as Amy Pond. We will forever be Whovians!
And, as most people have been saying; I didn’t really like Matt Smith at first, but now he’s my second fav (right behind Tennant)
I’m going 2 audition w/ this!!☺☺
Oh, thanks you saved me lots of time 🙂
I’m auditioning with this for my school play lol. time to become a pissed time lord yelling at a star creature. now do I do the accent or not is the real queation…
If you’re not British, don’t do the accent. I lost the lead in Much Ado About Nothing because I couldn’t do the monologue I had memorized without the accent, and the producer said that’s what killed me in the end; he said otherwise I would have had a real shot at it. So don’t do the accent, IMHO. 😉
I sent this to my drama teacher to get the “okay” that I could use this for my monologue project. She emailed me back wanting to know what happened next, and saying she wants to watch the show now! I think I’ve created another whovian!
Well done. 🙂 New season is starting up soon! September, I think. And, if you’re interested, there’s a new Star Trek series coming to CBS — it’s a reboot of the original, I believe, in the new alternate retconned universe.
