How to restore some of the lost features in iOS 6

Okay. After the “upgrade” a few days ago, to iOS 6, I was just as disappointed as the rest of you that I had lost some nice features. The two I missed the most were Google Maps Street View and YouTube (especially on iPad).

Here are some quick, simple steps to get both of the aforementioned features (Street View and YouTube) back — mostly.

You need apps, basically. The two apps I’m going to list are free.

First, for Street View: Go to the App Store, search for “Live Street View”. Download it. Open it up. Use it as you would use your regular maps application. To get to Street View, simply tap on a spot on the map. Yep. It’s that easy. Right now, Street View does not go full screen; you’ll have to live with that.

Second, for YouTube: Go to the App Store, search for “Jasmine” (should say something like “YouTube client” after it). Download it. Fire it up. If it gives you a message along the lines of “YouTube feeds are disabled”, simply uninstall (leave your finger on the app until it starts to wiggle, then tap the red x button in the upper-left hand corner of the app icon; you’ll get a pop up asking if you want to delete all data associated with it; yes you do) and reinstall — do this whenever you get that message about the feeds being disabled.

There. That should help you out a little bit until better YouTube apps come out and Apple Maps gets better. I know they’re not perfect, but they’re the best I’ve found, and both are free. Take care. I imagine we’ll be able to get a lot more things back once they jailbreak iOS 6.
