My Comcast TiVo box recently bricked on me, and I was more than happy to turn it in for a regular Comcast DVR — well, one of the new ones (DCX3400s) with the 320 gig hard drive (50 hours of HD programming) and more RAM for a faster guide.
Do not. Get. Comcast. TiVo. I cannot emphasize this enough. First, it has no features the regular Comcast DVR doesn’t have — other than the “suggestions” option, which I really don’t care about anyway. Comcast TiVo is incredibly slow to change channels, the guide is incredibly slow, the recording features are slow, and there’s no free space indicator.
Comcast TiVo sucks. I repeat, do not get a Comcast TiVo box. Now, a real, regular TiVo box, I’ve heard good things about. But leave it up to Comcast to totally screw up a good thing.
I’m happy with my regular Comcast DVR. Very happy.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll make sure it’s shared.

Hey, sorry to dis your company like that, but the Comcast TiVo really was awful.
Like I said, though, I’m really happy with the new Comcast DVR and the tech who came out to clear out the TiVo codes and install the new box was very efficient and helpful. And now that I’ve learned to program a 30-second DVR skip, I’m a pig in slop (there’s another massive suggestion: put the 30 second skip on the remote to begin with).
Thanks for replying!
i just got swindled to swith from RCN with TIVO Premier to Comcast TIVO and it BLOWS! There is NO COMPARISON. Comcast’s version is SLOW and glitchy and there is NO 30-second jump ahead (aka Commercial Killer) button! Also, Comcast’s guide only goes forward for ONE WEEK which makes scheduling future programs a real pain.
It is CHEAPER so my only motivation to stay is to save money. When I disco’d RCN they offered me a 30$ monthly reduction for a year, I should have bit!
Further- the installer, although friendly and polite – left every goddamn box, plastic wrapper Styrofoam and excess cable laying everywhere around the house and outside. I mean, WTF!
Get *rid* of that Comcast TiVo box and get their regular DVR on one of the new boxes — the DCX3400 series. Then check back here for instructions on how to enable 30-second skip on the regular Comcast DVR. Good luck, man.
