Forcing games into 1080p on the PS3

I recently noticed that Grand Theft Auto wasn’t displaying at its promised 1080p (well, at least for the map and HUD and certain elements, as most of the game is actually, I believe, in 480p). I found that in order to get it to display in 1080p and not in 720p I had to go to Display Settings in the XMB and disable 720p and 1080i (you can’t disable 480p), and then the game ran at 1080p.

    Do you have to re-enable 720p if you play a game that supports that resolution but not 1080p?

    Indeed, you have to re-enable 720p. The 720p game *will* play in 1080p but the graphics will be choppy if you force it to run in 1080p. Good luck, bro!
